Sousa and Armstrong Awards

MPHS Band Honors Student With Awards

    The Mount Pleasant Goin’ Gold Band recently presented awards to this year’s outstanding members.
    The John Phillip Sousa Band Award was presented to Lauren Eckstein. The Louis Armstrong Jazz Band Award was earned by Edgar DeJesus.

Most Outstanding by Year

The Most Outstanding Year Awards were presented to Anna Eckstein and Jasmine Hester as Most Outstanding Seniors, to Philip Rutnik and Josh Soto as Most Outstanding Juniors. The Most Outstanding Sophomore award was given to Christian Gomez while the Most Outstanding Freshman Award went to Eduardo Landeros.

Most Outstanding by Instrument Class

Most Outstanding Awards were also presented in instrument categories. Kayla Ellermann and Audrey Myers were honored as Most Outstanding High Woodwind while Garrett Trickey earned Most Outstanding Low Woodwind. In the brass instruments, Tommy Martin and Jonathan Montoya were named Most Outstanding High Brass. Jared Hill and Rigoberto Villa received the Most Outstanding Low Brass Award. Cody Russell was named Most Outstanding Percussion and Akeem Young earned Most Outstanding Color Guard.
    The band also presented Most Improved Awards to Chassie Green and Kemberly Meriwether.
    "I am very proud of all these students," said MPHS Band Director Richard Ecksetin. "They have worked very hard throughout the year. We will miss the seniors who are levaing us, but we have a great group of younger musicians coming along. I look forward to great things from them as well."
