MPHS Students Earn 1's at State Contest
And "1" Is Tops!
Thirteen Mount Pleasant High School Band
students and 4 Choir students made the trip to Austin last weekend
to compete at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Band and Choir
Competition. When they returned to Mount Pleasant, six had earned a
“1”, a Superior Rating on the pieces they performed, and one of
them came back with two “1’s”.
Choir student Audrey Myer and Anna Eckstein
each was awarded a Superior, a “1”, for their solos. Laura Flores
and Kristian Marshall each earned “2”, Excellent Rating for their
solos.
Band student Lauren Eckstein earned a
Superior Rating for her solo. The Saxophone Quarter of Edgar
DeJesus, Lauren Eckstein, Philipp Rudnik and Garrett Trickey also
earned a “1”, Superior, for their performance.
The Woodwind Trio, Anna Eckstein, Kayla Ellermann and Audrey Myers, received the Excellent Rating, “2”, for their performance.
The Brass Quintet of Jared Hill, Jonathan Montoya, Joshua Soto, Rigoberto Villa and Paul Yox, received a Good Rating, as did Eduardo Landeros for his solo.
“Just making it to the state level in band or choir is extremely difficult,” said MPHS Band Director Richard Eckstein. “It shows an incredible level of musicianship and dedication. For students like Anna and Audrey to make it to state in both Choir and Band is a very rare happening. It demonstrates their commitment to excellence. Both Luke Dean (MHS Choir Director) and I are fortunate to work with students such as these.”
“I congratulate all these students on their accomplishments,” said Judd Marshall, MPHS Principal. “I also thank Richard and Luke for the many hours they have spent with these students to get them ready for these competition. Mount Pleasant High School, in fact all of Mount Pleasant ISD, is proud of you.”
