Above and Beyond Awards: Awards were presented to Cecilia Rios Carrillo (CDC), and Angela Brooks and Patricia Hood (Corprew)
School Board Recognition Month Activities: Dr. Judi Saxton, MPISD Public Information Officer presented gifts from each campus to each Board member; introduced two Brownie Scouts from Brice who presented handmade plaques to each board member;
Corprew Elementary School Presentation: Principal LaWanda McCowan introduced GT teacher LaWyanda Prince and her students who presented a skit about the members of the MPISD Board including pictures of each Board member from a high school yearbook.
Audience participation: Lady Mujaji Civic/Social Club representative Kaye Nelms announced that the club had adopted Corprew Elementary School for the year and presented a check for $400 to Principal LaWanda McCowan.
Gold Performance Awards: Were presented to E.C. Brice Elementary School (Comparable Improvement: Mathematics, Commended Performance: Mathematics, Commended Performance: Writing), Vivian Fowler Elementary School (Attendance Rate, Comparable Improvement: Mathematics, Commended Performance; Reading/ELA, Commended Performance: Mathematics), Annie Sims Elementary School (Commended Performance: Reading/ELA), Corprew Elementary School (Commended Performance: Reading/ELA, Commended Performance: Mathematics, Commended Performance: Writing), Wallace Middle School (Attendance Rate, Comparable Improvement: Reading/ELA, Comparable Improvement: Mathematics, Commended Performance: Science); and, the Community Learning Center (Advanced /Course/Dual Enrollment Completion).
Board Business:
•Approved overnight trips for MPHS Band to 4-States Honor Band Clinic/Concert in Texarkana (Jan. 14-15); MPHS DECA Marketing to State Competition in Fort Worth (Feb. 18-21); MPHS HOSA to Area 3 Leadership Conference/Competition in Richardson (Feb. 26-27); MPHS UIL One Act Play to Clinic in Nacogdoches (March 4-5); and, MPHS Student Council to TASC Annual Conference in Arlington (April 8-10).
•Adopted a Resolution recognizing February as Career and Technical Education Month in the district.
•Adopted the District Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Statement of Beliefs.
•Adopted Administrative Policies for Concerning Testing Procedures: Emergency Procedures for State-Mandated Testing Disruptions, Model Policy and Cell Phone Policy.
•Adopted Policy Update 86 Affecting Local Policies concerning Activity Funds Management Accounting, Maintenance of Building, Grounds and Equipment; Facilities Construction; Personnel-Management Relations-Employee Complaints/Grievances; Academic Achievement in the areas of Grading/Progress Reports to Parents, Student Retention and Promotion, and Graduation; Admissions concerning School Safety Transfers, Compulsory Attendance and Attendance for Credit; and, Wellness and Health Services-Communicable Diseases.
•Approved the purchase of a football field turf maintenance machine from Terra Clean for $10,285.
•Approved School Center as the new E-Rate Qualified Web-Hosting Company for 2010-2011.
Superintendent’s Report:
•The majority of building and maintenance projects in the district have been completed. The district is in the process of bidding out portions of the old ESS renovation.
Personnel:
Superintendent’s Contract: The Superintendent’s contract was extended for one year and he was awarded a 3% raise.
